SUMMARY:CULTIVATING LOVINGKINDNESS
DESCRIPTION:CULTIVATING LOVINGKINDNESS:\nWalking the Path with Heart\n\nThousands of years ago\, the Buddha taught the twin principles of mindfulness and compassion. He encouraged the practice of metta\, or Lovingkindess\, as a way for us to realize our inherent capacity to love ourselves and others fully\, deeply and freely. It is a practice that “undoes” all that has gotten in the way of our ability to love ourselves and others well. It unshackles the armor that we have accrued around our hearts. It frees us up to give and receive love in the same\, easy\, natural way that we breathe in and out. \nHonoring the body as a sacred temple and the heart as a transformative vehicle on the spiritual path\, we will engage in guided meditations\, breathing practices\, gentle yoga sequences\, restorative and yin poses to deepen our capacity to feel compassion for ourselves (and all aspects of ourselves) and others (and all aspects of others). There will be time allotted for self-reflection\, journaling\, creative expression\, and meditation throughout the day to more deeply integrate the metta practice. Give yourself this opportunity to cultivate Lovingkindness…to realize your potential to love yourself and others well. \nAsanas will be gentle. Beginners are welcome and encouraged. \nWhere:\nAvalon Yoga Center\n370 South California Avenue\nPalo Alto\, CA \nWhen:\nSunday\, June 6th\, 2010 ~ 1:30 to 4:30pm\n\nInstructors:\nJackie Long \nJackie Long has been teaching yoga and meditation in the Bay Area since 2001\, and has been offering workshops and retreats internationally since 2004. DESCRIPTION:CULTIVATING GRATITUDE:\nA Restorative/Yin Yoga Workshop\n\n“Cultivating gratitude tills the soil of our soul sending roots deep down into the earth of our everyday existence.”\n-Sarah Breathnach\nIn this 3-hour restorative yoga workshop\, Jackie Long will encourage us to explore a deep sense of gratitude for all the abundance in our lives. All too often we focus on what is lacking. Jackie will help us shift our focus away from what’s missing and towards what is already here. \nJackie will lead us in restorative poses and yin yoga poses\, which deeply benefit the joints and calm the nervous system. Since the yoga practice will be very gentle\, with a focus on stress relief and relaxation\, this workshop will be a great opportunity to introduce a friend\, loved one or co-worker to yoga. Jackie believes that yoga is for “any body” and she teaches in a very gentle\, nurturing and accessible manner. \nWhile this workshop is great for beginners\, intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners are strongly encouraged to attend as well. The still\, inward and meditative nature of restorative and yin yoga often challenges the active yoga practitioner to be present and look within. \nWhere:\nAvalon Yoga Center\n370 South California Avenue\nPalo Alto\, CA \nWhen: \nSaturday\, November 13th\, 2010 \n12:30 – 3:30 pm \nInstructors:\nJackie Long \nJackie Long has been teaching yoga and meditation in the Bay Area since 2001\, and has been offering workshops and retreats internationally since 2004. In 1999\, she lived in a Buddhist Monastery in Thailand for a few months\, practicing Insight Meditation with her teachers\, senior monks\, Ajahn Nayanarato and Tan Ajahn Gavesako. Her teachers also include Swami Vimalananda (Integral Yoga)\, Sarah Powers (Insight Yoga) and Judith Lasater (Restorative Yoga). Jackie is also a Marriage & Family Therapist and offers counseling in her private practice in Los Altos. With a Neuropsychology degree from Princeton University and a Counseling Psychology degree from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology\, Jackie bridges East-West wisdom seamlessly in each of her classes. \nRates:\n$55 in advance / $65 day of workshop \nRegistration:\nTo reserve a spot\, please do the following: \nPlease call Avalon Yoga at 650.324.2517 or email info@avalonyoga.com. But to consciously communicate that gratitude – to each other\, to our bodies\, to the earth\, to the Divine – makes our gratitude come alive.”\n-Jackie Long\n

SUMMARY:YOGA & MINDFULNESS ON THE BEACH
DESCRIPTION:YOGA & MINDFULNESS ON THE BEACH\nPracticing yoga on the beach has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. There is something about reaching up into the infinite sky\, breathing out across the vast ocean\, and grounding my feet into the shifting sand that speaks to me. As Pablo Neruda writes\, “I need the sea because it teaches me.” It reminds me that whatever it is I am feeling\, whatever it is I am going through\, there is a vast spaciousness that holds me\, and I no longer feel so lost or alone. When I breathe in the ocean air and hear the pounding waves\, I feel the vitality renewing within me and become more aware of the rhythm of my own heart. I feel more in touch with myself and more a part of the interconnected web of life. As I more palpably sense the presence of something far greater than me\, I realize that whatever it is I am faced with\, I will make it through. \nSo if you\, too\, love the sea\, I’d like to invite you to join me in practicing yoga on the beach on Saturday\, September 10th for a 3 hour Yoga & Mindfulness Workshop in Half Moon Bay. \n Where:\nBeach Location will be sent via email upon registrationWhen:\nSaturday\, September 10th\, 2011 ~ 10:00am to 1:00pm\n\nInstructor:\nJackie LongJackie Long\, E-RYT is an experienced registered yoga teacher\, with over 14 years of experience in the practice and application of yoga and meditation.
